The state government has appointed over 100 lab technicians on contractual basis for assisting the health department to conduct random testing for COVID-19 in 71 clusters identified across the state.

“We have adequate manpower to conduct the random testing in these identified clusters,” Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War told reporters on Saturday.

He informed that over 100 lab technicians have been appointed on contractual basis for the purpose. According to him, they will assist in the collection of samples.

Asked, Dr War said 40 of them are in the Shillong civil hospital.

It may be mentioned here that the state government had decided to go for aggressive random testing in as many as 71 clusters identified as ‘vulnerable’ to COVID-19 to prevent community spread of the disease in the state.

As of today, the total COVID-19 active cases in the state have increased to 547 while 97 have recovered and five have died due to the contagious virus.
