    Meghalaya Governor, Phagu Chauhan on Wednesday graced the 74th Foundation Day celebration of the International Centre for Cultural Relations (ICCR) held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.

    In his address, the Governor acknowledged the significant role of cultural exchange programs in promoting Indian culture. He expressed happiness that students from various countries have come to India for higher studies under the schemes administered by ICCR on behalf of the Government of India. He emphasized the idea of “Vasudev Kutumbakam,” which means the whole world is a family, a concept upheld by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Governor stressed on the importance of spreading peace and brotherhood through culture worldwide, and expressed hope that the students would remember India’s hospitality and continue the friendship throughout their lives.

    The Governor also highlighted the rich cultural heritage of North East India, known for its diversity, and expressed hope that the students would have the opportunity to experience and appreciate the unique cultural traditions of the region.

    Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Government of Meghalaya, Dr. B.D.R Tiwari (IAS) in his address highlighted how no civilization remains isolated. Citing India’s significant contributions to math, astronomy, and other fields, he acknowledged India’s cultural influences from other countries, such as the example of betel leaf from Southeast Asia. Tiwari expressed optimism for the continued intermingling of cultures, hoping for fruitful outcomes.

    The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, scholars, artists, and cultural enthusiasts, and featured a vibrant cultural program that showcased the rich heritage of Meghalaya and diverse traditions from around the world.
