Meghalaya gets 38 EMRS, approval of 4 CES awaited

Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday informed that 38 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) have been sanctioned for the state.
“We have also proposed setting up of four Center of Excellence for Sports and we are awaiting the Centre’s approval,” Rakkam said in his reply during the question hour.

He informed that five of the 38 EMRS are facing land issue and they include Laitkor block, Mawryngkneng block, Mylliem block, Umsning block and Laskein block.
According to him, 16 projects are ongoing while 7 are in the stage of detailed project report (DPR) preparation.

Further, the minister informed that so far construction of the two EMRS at Samanda and Pahamsyiem have been completed.
“We are pushing with the ministry to make them functional (at the earliest),” he said.
When Mawryngkneng MLA Heavingstone Kharpran refuted that there is any land issue in Mawryngkneng since dorbar shnong has given NOC and education officials have conducted inspection, the minister said that the department is waiting for the final report on the matter.
