Meghalaya CS reviews law & order scenario for smooth conduct of LS polls
Chief Secretary DP Wahlang on Wednesday reviewed the law and order situation in the state including the inter-state border ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, to be held on April 19.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Home (Police) Department, Dr Shakil P Ahammed, the Director General of Police, Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi, IPS, the Commissioner and Secretary, ERTS Department, Sanjay Goyal, Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, Dr BDR Tiwari, and officials of Election Department, Secretary, Home (Police) Department, the Inspector General Frontier Headquarters, BSF Meghalaya, and the State Police Nodal Officers, MK Singh at Conference Hall Main Secretariat, Shillong.
Wahlang sought information on these issues for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, in which the DGP Meghalaya DrLajja Ram Bishnoi gave a presentation on law and order situation in the state and in the border areas.
He also informed on the close coordination with the Assam police to maintain peace in the border areas. The Election Commission of India has fixed an Inter-State Border meeting with Assam on April 3.
The meeting also discussed the steps taken to keep a vigil on interstate border movement, Prevention/detention of anti–social elements, plan for surveillance and sealing of entry and exit points and porous interstate borders, declaration of dry and paid holiday, execution of NBW and others.
