MDA cabinet condoles death of Dr Roy
SHILLONG: The state Cabinet on Tuesday condoled the death of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Donkupar Roy.
Roy (64), who was the longest serving legislator and head of the regional party, United Democratic Party, passed away after a brief illness at Medanta hospital, Gurugram on Sunday afternoon. He was 64.
The emergent meeting was chaired by chief minister Conrad K Sangma and attended by cabinet ministers on their returning from Sohra after accompanying the body of the departed leader.
Talking to media persons, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that the Cabinet has expressed deep condolence to the family members of the great leader.
“We have decided to send a condolence message to the bereaved family in the form of a resolution,” Tynsong said.
A two-minute silence was also observed during the meeting to pay respect to the departed soul.
Tynsong also informed that the state funeral of Dr Roy will be held from 12 noon till 1.30 pm at Mawpun stadium in Sohra after which the remains of the great leader will be taken to Shella.
