Load shedding in Meghalaya to continue till arrival of Monsoon
Adding more misery to the people of the State from the long duration of load shedding, the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited has make it crystal clear that the loading shedding will continue till the arrival of monsoon.
The Corporation’s Director attributed load shedding since April 2023 onwards for the entire State of Meghalaya due to outages of NEEPCO power stations, which reduced Meghalaya shares by about 45 MW.
Another reasoning for the loading shedding is the Umiam Water level dropping to extreme low and it is the lowest this year as compared to the previous years.
The Director informed the total state Generation from 1st April 2023 till 10th May 2023 was 40% lesser as compared to the same period of previous years.
A major cause of concern is the deficient rainfall across the state and the region and it has affected all power stations in the Umiam Basin as well as the Myntdu Leshka generation.
The share from the Central sector generation of NEEPCO viz, Ranganadi HEP, Pare HEP, Kameng HEP, Doyang HEP and Loktak HEP of NHPC has also reduced.
Hence, in view of the above power scenario, Load Shedding cannot be avoided, the Director asserted.
The MePDCL crippled from all directions and with the fast depleting water level of Umiam reservoir is facing problem to manage the power availability and its own generation has also reduced considerably thus compelling them to resort to Load shedding and it will have to continue till the arrival of monsoon.
