Lakadong turmeric authenticity to be investigated, says Sohliya
The Horti Fair and Exhibition held on May 23 at Ladtadlaboh indoor hall, Jowai, saw enthusiastic participation from farmers across various villages, who showcased their hard work and horticultural expertise. This event provided a valuable platform for farmers to connect with customers and suppliers.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya encouraged farmers to make the most of the opportunities presented by the exhibition, urging them to leverage the event for their own benefit. He praised the Horticulture Department for consistently organizing the exhibition, which helps farmers enhance the quality and value of their products.
Sohliya also addressed concerns about the misuse of the Lakadong Turmeric tag, stating that the District Administration, Horticulture Department, and the forum would investigate and take action to ensure the product’s authenticity is maintained.
DC Sohtun, Director of Horticulture, Meghalaya, Shillong, also spoke at the event. The welcome address was delivered by S Rani, District Horticulture Officer, Jowai and the vote of thanks was given by Demandson Lyngdoh, Assistant Director of Horticulture (Mkt), Jowai.
To uplift the farmers, awards were presented for the best product showcases. In the Potted House Foliage Plants and Creepers category, the first and third prizes were awarded to Lanalut-I Syngkon from Priang Village, while the second prize went to Christian Suchiang from Mulum Village.
Lanalut-I Syngkon also secured first and third places in the Foliages category, with Daplin Lyngdoh from Jowai taking second place.
In the Fern category, Julie Ryngkhlem from Wapung Village won first prize, followed by Iohkmen Phawa from Wahiajer and Emilin Talang from Nartiang Village, who took second and third places, respectively.
In the Bonsai category, Emborlang Phawa from Wahiajer won first prize, with Sabina Syngkon from Lad-Mukhla and Willingly Litting taking second and third places, respectively.
