It was a historic day for newly promoted Laitkor SC as they achieved their first victory in the Shillong Premier League 2024, defeating Nangkiew Irat SC 2-0 at SSA Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday.

In another thrilling evening match, Langsning FC triumphed over Nongthymmai SC with a dramatic 3-2 win, coming from behind to secure victory in stoppage time.

All four teams playing on Wednesday had lost their opening matches of the season, with Laitkor particularly disappointed by their previous walkover due to incomplete player registrations.

However, they made a strong comeback by defeating a 10-man Nangkiew Irat, with second-half goals from Fridison Wanniang (60’) and Banskhem Kharkongor (90’+1).

Laitkor retained many players who contributed to their promotion from the First Division last season, while Nangkiew Irat featured several seasoned players with more experience at this level.

The first half hour saw Laitkor absorb significant pressure but they began to push forward more effectively thereafter. The game truly ignited in the second half when Nangkiew Irat’s Banraplang Nongsteng had a golden opportunity, but his close-range shot rebounded off the goalkeeper and went over the crossbar.

Just two minutes later, Fridison netted the opener, skillfully placing the ball past Nangkiew Irat’s goalkeeper, Surjay Kumar Pariyar. Fridison remained active in the attack but couldn’t find the net again.

In the 65th minute, Nangkiew Irat’s Ronaldkydon Lyngdoh Nonglait was sent off after a reckless foul, receiving a direct red card, and coach Joseph Naik was cautioned for his protests.

Laitkor aimed to capitalize on their numerical advantage but hesitated to shoot in promising positions. Substitute Banskhem, however, showcased his confidence during a counterattack, successfully firing the ball past Surjay into the net.

In the earlier match, Michaelson Kurbah (20’) gave Nongthymmai the lead, but Langsning’s Laldanmawia equalized with a header in the 40’. Dajiedlang Wanshnong (47’) then put Langsning ahead, only for Ronald Singh Shaikhom to level the scores again with a penalty (61’).

The action continued end-to-end until John Lalrinawma (90’+1) secured the win for Langsning with a well-timed finish, though goalkeeper Banshngainlang Masynting had to be stretchered off after a collision.

Arkwis Wanniang provided a crucial cross from the left, which Michaelson tapped in at the far post. Despite their efforts, Nongthymmai couldn’t maintain their lead into halftime, with Laldanmawia scoring from a corner delivered by Malsawmdawngpuia.

Malsawmdawngpuia assisted Dajiedlang’s goal as Langsning gained momentum. Nongthymmai fought back and earned a penalty for a handball, which Ronald converted.

Tomorrow promises another exciting day of action with Rangdajied United FC facing Shillong Lajong FC at 2:30 PM, followed by a local derby between Ryntih FC and Mawlai FC at 5:30 PM.
