Ladrymbai based Society to impart first ever training on Handloom Weaving
In order to provide an alternate means of income generation for the people of East Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya, the Ladrymbai Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society will conduct first ever training on handloom weaving for fifty trainees of the district.
Formed in September 23, 2008, the Society comprised of a total of 15 members with Martin Khiangte as Chairman and Reginald Khiangte as Secretary and it is based in Ladrymbai Tyrsoo under Wapung Community & Rural Development Block.
The Society is currently empanelled with the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, Department of Labour Employment & Skill Development.
According to Ladrymbai Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Secretary Reginald Khiangte, the training programme will be free of cost and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society will be providing the raw materials during the course of the training programme while further adding that they are to provide some materials to the trainees.
Khiangte informed that the second batch of training will be conducted after four months and he also hoped that through the training programme the people will be able to augment their income.
Inaugurating the training programme on Wednesday, East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi, IAS said that the people should not only depend on coal mining for income generation as there are many other trades where they opt for earning their income.
Meghalaya Skill Development Officer Lambormi Suchen said the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society is always ready for funding any income generation activities.
The inaugural programme was presided over by Reginald Khiangte while Headman of Ladrymbai-B Jesper Bareh welcomed the gathering and a vote of thank was proposed by Cherity Suja Secretary of Ladrymbai-B. The programme was attended by Alan Taring. Representative District Handloom Jowai, Lalngaii Nampui of Saipung Handloom Centre, Ashokanand and Gregory James Lamare both from Prime Hub and Pynsuklang Hayong.
