KJNU seek DGP’s intervention over illegal collection on Jowai bypass
The Khasi Jaintia National Union (KJNU) on Thursday sought the intervention of the state Director General of Police (DGP), R Chandranathan into alleged illegal collection of money by the police at Jowai by-pass in West Jaintia Hills district.
“The organization expects your good office to take action on those people involved in this illegal act,” KJNU president Niman N Shadap said in a letter to the DGP.
He said the organization had lodged a complaint with the West Jaintia Hills, Superintendent of Police on October 7, against the illegal collection of money by certain individuals donned in civil dress from vehicles passing through the checkpoint set up by the Ummulong police beat house at Mukhla-Thadlaskein along the Jowai bypass.
Shadap however alleged that the SP seems to have no interest in taking action as the incident continues to happen till date.
“Seeing that the office of the SP is not willing to take action on the complaint, the organization is forced to bring the incident…to your good office as it appeared to the organization that the police are hand in glove with those very people who donned in civil dress and committed the act,” he said.
