Kiang Nangbah Government College hosts “Handholding Session for Teaching Faculties” aligned with NEP 2020
Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai organised a one-day “Handholding Session for Teaching Faculties on Implementation of ITEP aligned with NEP 2020” on Wednesday in collaboration with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi.
The Principal of Kiang Nangbah Government College Dr. (Mrs) E.M. Blah, who delivered the Inaugural address, highlighted that ITEP is a new teacher education programme initiated by NCTE and aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 is offered in Multidisciplinary Higher Education Institutions in Pilot mode with an aim to nurture, equip student-teachers and ensure that outstanding and deserving candidates enter the teaching profession. She also motivates the students and assures that all necessary resources and guidance will be provided to the students to help them achieve their goals.
Noted academician in the country and ITEP Curriculum Core Committee Member, Prof. R. C. Patel was the main Expert for this Handholding Session. Prof. C. Nongbri of Education Department, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong was also part of the programme where she moderated the Second Handholding Session. The Programme was chaired by Dr. Teibor Papang, Assistant Professor of the College.
In the first session, Prof. R.C. Patel, acquainted the participants with the process and journey of teacher education right from the beginning, and how ITEP has evolved because of the need to change the system of teacher education. He also highlighted the various Education Commissions and suggested that every teacher must read the National Education Policy 2020 and highlighted the main recommendations of the Policy. He deliberated on ITEP, and other Teacher Education Programmes which will be introduced at a later stage and the co-existence of the different types of Teacher Education Programmes. This has benefited all the participants.
In the second session, which was dedicated to the question round, questions were raised with regard to four sections: Academic, Regulations, Admissions and Other areas where these questions were deliberated at length and both Prof. R.C. Patel and Prof. C. Nongbri addressed the questions raised.
The Principal, Head of different Departments of the College and Integrated Teacher Education Programme Faculties, non-teaching faculties and ITEP students attended the programme.
