The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has expressed apprehension that the state government’s decision to reopen the road from Them Iew Mawlong to Bimola junction will only further delay the proposed relocation of the 342 families from the area.

“We fear that the decision of the government to reopen the road will further delay the proposed relocation of the residents from Them Iew Mawlong,” KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said in a statement.

He also asked, “If the government has expressed its intention to relocate the residents from the area, then why is it not taking steps to do so and then reopen the road?”

“Six long years have lapsed and yet the demand of the people has not been fulfilled. It has also witnessed instances of the government succumbing to the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) during the last six years, which has only encouraged them to do whatever they like,” he added.

Further, Passah said the government is demanded to take immediate steps to relocate these residents from Them Iew Mawlong and then decide on other matters.
