Alarmingly, the Civil Hospital Khliehriat located in East Jaintia Hills District is presently functioning without a Blood Storage Centre for the past eight months putting the life of people at a risk in case of emergency needs of bloods.

The license of the said centre was suspended on 15th December last year by the Assistant Drugs Controller Licensing and Controlling Authority Meghalaya Shillong.

During the inspection conducted by the said authority many deficiencies surfaced, which are grievous in nature for the general public (patients).

The authority found out that Bloods refrigerator was not working while the power supply to the centre is erratic.

The digital dial thermometer with recording thermometer and alarm device was also not functioning for maintaining the required temperature for storage of Blood.

The authority was compel to suspend the license until and unless compliance is met to ensure the well being of the people.

Meanwhile, the KSU East Jaintia Hills District has urged the Health department to rectify the anamolies and made the centre functional and operational at the earliest.
