KHADC warns action against traditional heads
SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has warned to take action against traditional heads in the inter-state border if they are found to issue No-objection certificate (NOC) without the knowledge of the Council.
This came following the issue related to the issuance of NOC by the Hima Nongspung to the Assam government for construction of a PMGSY road along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
In connection to this, the KHADC on Thursday summoned the Syiem of Hima Nongspung Patrick Syiemiong for seeking explanation on the matter.
Syiemiong however categorically denied his hand behind the issuing of the NOC to the government of Assam and blamed that it was done by the secretary of the Hima Michael Warjri.
This fact was also revealed in an agreement signed between Wajri and Assam legislator from West Gauhati Constituency Ramendra Narayan Kalita on July 25, 2016, which the Council has also taken note of.
Speaking to reporters, KHADC deputy chief executive member Pyniaid Sing Syiem said, “The Syiem had completely denied the allegation and blamed the secretary behind the issuing of the NOC to the Assam government.”
He said in view of this, the Council has decided to summon Warjri on May 29, before taking a final decision on the course of action to be taken in this regard.
On the other hand, Executive Member in-charge Land, Titosstarwell Chyne said the Council will take stringent action against traditional heads if found that they issue NOC without informing the KHADC.
“We have decided to call a meeting of the traditional heads on the matter,” he said.
