SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to take action against non-tribal street vendors who are illegally operating without obtaining trading license from the Council.

“The Act has clearly stated that the street vendors have to obtain trading license from the Council,” Executive Member in-charge Trade Paul Lyngdoh told reporters after a review meeting held here on Wednesday.

According to him, the council through the trade, enforcement and market department will take steps against illegal street vendors.

He said the KHAD (Trading by Non-Tribals) Regulation Act, 1954 has empowered the executive member, officers of the trade and council to impose fine against illegal street vendors ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 3000.
