SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will soon take a call on whether to remove the Syiem of Hima Nongspung following complaints relating to financial matters and granting of the NOC to the Assam government for construction of a PMGSY road along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

The decision was taken at a final hearing conducted by the deputy chief executive member Pyniaid Sing Syiem and executive member in charge Land Titosstarwell Chyne in the city here on Wednesday.

It was attended by the Syiem of Hima Nongspung Patrick Syiemiong, his legal counsels and the complainants.

After the hearing, Pyniaid told reporters that this was the last hearing conducted based on the complaints lodged by two parties which include the Dorbar of Raid War Mawsaw and the executive members of the Hima.

He said the complaints were related to the failure of the Syiem to convene the executive dorbar of the Hima for the past many years and presenting of the audit report besides failing to open bank account of the Hima.

It also include the No-objection certificate (NOC) issued  by the Secretary of Hima Nongspung Michael Warjri to the Assam government for the construction of the PMGSY road at Balakhawa village along the inter-state border.

The deputy chief minister informed that the Syiem has submitted all relevant documents on the matter.

“Therefore, we have concluded the hearing today. The executive committee of the Council will soon take a call and accordingly issue order in this connection within four-five days,” he said.

Asked, Pyniaid said that the decision will be on whether to remove the Syiem of Hima Nongspung from his office, after examining the case.

Earlier, the Syiem had claimed that the NOC was issued to the Assam government without his knowledge which the secretary however refuted by alleging that the matter was done with the consent of the Syiem.

On the claimed of the secretary Michael Warjri that he was appointed to the post for lifetime, the deputy CEM while rubbishing this said, “Once the Syiem is removed, the entire executive dorbar including the secretary post stand automatically dissolved.”
