JSU demands clarification on envi clearance to Star Cement

The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) has demanded the district administration of East Jaintia Hills to come up with proper clarification within 24 hours on the environmental clearance accorded to the Star Cement for expansion of its limestone mining project.

In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner E Kharmalki on Tuesday, JSU also wanted to know on whose recommendation that the environmental clearance was granted to the Star Cement without conducting the public hearing.

“Under whose state agency or state department the recommendation was made to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change,” it asked.

The union also sought the names of the 280 written presentations made to the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.
