Jowai girl wins gold medal as Assam Don Bosco University’s MBA topper

Dorothy Roy Tariang, a girl from Jowai was awarded Gold Medal for being the topper in MBA programme of the Assam Don Bosco University. She secured the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 9.29 out of 10.0.

Born to Dr (Mrs) Iwbih Nylla Tariang, a Senior Veterinary Officer and journalist father Dr. Anirban Roy at Mynthong in Jowai, Dorothy Roy Tariang did her specialization in Human Resource Management.

This is for the first time a girl from Meghalaya has emerged as a topper in the MBA programme of the Assam Don Bosco University. 

Dorothy Roy Tariang was awarded the Gold Medal at the 12th Convocation of the Assam Don Bosco University held on Saturday evening at the Tapesia campus near Guwahati. 

Euphoric with the success, Dorothy said she would like to work for the development of the people of Meghalaya. 

Before joining the MBA programme of the Assam Don Bosco University, Dorothy did her graduation in English Literature from the Amity University.  

Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, who is also the Visitor of Assam Don Bosco University, graced the occasion and gave away awards to the toppers.

In his convocation address to the graduating students, Gulab Chand Kataria said, “As the new young workforce of our beloved country, you are joining millions of youths with dreams, visions, innovative ideas and hopes for a better India.”

The Governor asked the students to try to be a part of the workforce which makes meaningful changes in the lives of the people of India through innovative ideas and dedication.

Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University, Fr. Januarius Sangma, while addressing the graduates said, ‘The world stands before you, as a canvas awaiting your brush-strokes, a stage awaiting your performance, a laboratory awaiting your experiments, and the nation awaiting your leadership.”

During his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University, Fr. (Dr) Jose Palely, extended his congratulations to the graduates. He expressed his hope that as they leave this campus, they will find it easier to accept change and adapt tenaciously to the changing times. 

Gold Medals were presented to 36 outstanding graduates with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in each programme, spanning various categories.
