JHADC’s employees filed a contempt petition in Meghalaya’s High Court
Taken aback by the non compliance of the High Court of Meghalaya’s order for releasing the salaries within a period of six months from the month of March this year, the employees of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council or the JHADC under the banner of the JHADC Staff Association filed a contempt of court petition against the JHADC and the Meghalaya Government on the 11th of this month.
It may be recalled here that the High Court of Meghalaya in March this year pronounced its judgement in the trial of the writ petition (civil) filed by the JHADC Staff Association versus Meghalaya Govt and JHADC. The judgement directed the Govt to clear all pending dues on royalty to the JHADC within six months while at the same time directed the JHADC to pay the pending salaries of its employees within six months
The long wait of the six months period by the employees of the JHADC ended in vain on October this year as neither the Govt nor the JHADC implement the Court’s judgement.
During the six months period, the employees of the JHADC staged peaceful protests on three occasions to appeal to the people at the helms of affairs to listen to their pleas.
The High Court held the first hearing of the contempt petition filed by the JHADC Staff Association on Tuesday this week.
However as there was no advocate(s) for either the Govt or the JHADC, the Court listed the next hearing on 6th of February next year.
Meanwhile to some respite to the sufferings of the employees of the JHADC, the Executive Committee cleared their salaries till the month of April this year. Now they have to wait again for an unpredictable time for the clearance of salaries of the remaining months from May this year
