JHADC Chief faced attempt to rape charge: but charge withdrew next day

JOWAI: In a sudden turn of event, one lady allegedly charged Chief Executive Member of Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Madonbai Rymbai of attempting to rape her in Delhi around three months back but on the very next day she withdrew the charge against him.

According to highly placed sources, the lady filed a firsthand information report (FIR) at Women Police Station, Jowai on 12^th February, this year that on 28th November, 2018 Rymbai and his friend took her to Delhi and on reaching Delhi he attempted to rape her but she escaped the attempt as she struggled against him.

The Women Police Station received complaint as Zero FIR as the place of occurrence is in Delhi. According to provision of law, a citizen can file FIR in any police station in the country to report a crime occurred in any part of the country and the said FIR is known as Zero FIR as the said FIR will be transferred to the police station concerned where the crime occur.

She also alleged that on reaching Jowai, Rymbai called her and apologize her that she will not leak by assuring her that she will be provided a job in JHADC.  She asserted that she delayed in filing FIR as she was nervous and afraid.

Strangely, on 13th February, the lady submitted a letter to the Women Police Station, Jowai informing that she has decided on her own free will and without any pressure from corner to withdraw the FIR lodged by her against Rymbai.

Meanwhile, the sources informed that the West Jaintia Hills District police have forwarded the Zero FIR to the Delhi Police Commissioner for registration of the case and investigation into the charges and it has been received by Delhi Police.

However, the sources informed that Rymbai was granted interim bail from court in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District for 15 days.

When contacted, Rymbai said the charge of attempt to rape against him is a mere allegation to tarnish his image and a political conspiracy hatched by his rivals to end his political career.

The Khliehtyrchi-Sohmynting MDC informed that during the trip to Delhi in November last year he was accompanied by Musniang Rngad MDC Phasmon Dkhar, Khliehriat Rymbai MDC Violet Lyngdoh and the lady in question and at any point of time he did not entered the room booked and occupied by the said lady in question.

He also asserted that Lyngdoh and the lady in question entered the room occupied by Rymbai where he was already with Dkhar and Lyngdoh and the lady left the room after sometime.

Rymbai is facing a one to one straight contest with his arch-rival Lakhon Dkhar (Independent candidate) in this MDC Election and according to the sitting MDC, Sniawbhalang Dhar (Nartiang MLA) is wholeheartedly supporting Lakhon Dkhar instead of the party official candidate.

Dhar was visibly angered when media-persons confronted him with the allegation of Rymbai that he is supporting Dkhar as he simply replied that the NPP is a big family and there will be issues and he does not want to comment in public.
