    JOWAI: The International Women’s’ Day was observed on March 8 at Mooshrot Community Hall, Mooshrot Village organised by the District Legal Service Authority, West Jaintia Hills and District Social Welfare Department, West Jaintia.

    Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Chanky Lyngdoh dwelt on the role of a mother in this present age. He also spoke on the importance of being a woman and made a clarion call that whatever role a woman is be a mother, a wife, a daughter, a colleague or a friend she has a lot to offer.

    District Social Welfare officer, Smt. J Synnah spoke on the significance of the day and brief on the origin of the day.

    D.S Marbaniang, Secretary District Legal Service Authority highlighted on the theme “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for change.” Stressing on the importance of the adaptability in this era modernism, he also stated that the role of every women is vital as they are the shaper and the backbone of the family.

    He also encourage the gathering to believed in their ability to start afresh and to actively participate in whatever venture or avenue they are involved  and  to bring racial changes in their daily activities be it professional or domestic. Further, he reminded the gathering that the struggle for better facilities and recognition for women folk began a century ago. However, with changing times, there has been more needs which has to be address at the earliest.

    Earlier the participants and dignitaries were welcomed by the Local Headman Jania Suchiang and the vote of thanks was offered by P Chyrmang.
