I want to transform Garo hills for better: Mukul
SHILLONG: Former chief minister Mukul Sangma held series of meetings at Tura Bazar, Palm Dale, Matchakolgre to garner support for him in the upcoming MP election.
Mukul spoke at length about the series of developmental works he had done during his tenure as a Chief Minister.
“When I was Chief Minister many leaders from different civil societies, church elders, locality elders many have come and approached me to address the problem of insurgency and together with all the concerned citizens we have managed to bring back normalcy and peace in the state. In order to bring the developmental works in the region we all must obtain peace which we have achieved and it was no easy task but with the zeal of the people it was not a mission impossible; Dr.Mukul said.
“Many people have asked me when I go to New Delhi many years ago – how many medical colleges do you have in your state? How many engineering colleges etc etc. I was ashamed to say “None” as our state was supposedly known as the educational hub of the north east; so how will I reply No to their questions; people from the opposition starts blame game saying Dr.Mukul didn’t do any developmental work…dr.mukul has bankrupted the state and what not Dr.Mukul has run the government for 8 long years and there was no bankruptcy in the state; even after running the government for 8 years Dr.Mukul still brought Engineering colleges, Capt. Williamson Sangma Technical University in Tura, College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Medical College all under construction; Tura Pinemount International School and the list gos on and on and on; I have given the people “The visible development”; he said
“When I first became MLA of Ampati I was 27 years old; and during assembly I have asked numbers of questions pertaining to the road to Tura via Shillong. Many years went by but the road condition still remained the same; It was the back breaking journey all the way from Shillong to Tura; so when I became the Chief Minster the first thing I did was- built Shillong Guwahati four-lane and complete it in a record time of Three years.and then Shillong Nongstoin Tura Road, Dubhri-Phulbari NH127B; these major project will ultimately go and terminate 401Kms now ask from where will we get the money to build those? Well there are funding agencies which promote trade and commerce like world bank,Asian Development Bank and different other financial institutions, Japanese international cooperation agency(JICA); so we negotiated all of them; when we made this trade and commerce project road JICA was very happy and said they can finance some of the projects NH 127B and in 2012 it was sanctioned and notified- from Sreerampur to dubhri-Phulbari- Rajabala-Selsela-Goeragre and then from Asanang to Rongsak-Samanda-Songsak-Nongstoin and this will be the largest infrastructure in North East and the trade and commerce opportunity will open up automatically. “ he said
“I am confident that what I could have done or whatever I can present as the Chief Minister of the state I have done so now I am dedicating myself to serve you as the capacity of MP to lend the voice at the parliament and bring development to the region; Make me your instrument by sending me for the MP and together we can transform Garo Hills for better. He said
While Former RBI CGM Beryl B. Sangma lambasted Agatha Sangma for her non performance stating Parliamentary Research Studies have recorded Agatha Sangma’s attendance was only 49% and number of debates zero, number of questions asked was also zero then what was she doing in New Delhi? Thats why people started calling NPP as Non-Performing- Party and Agatha Sangma as Non-performing person. She has not done anything neither she has any credibility or capacity to do anything to speak for the people in Parliament and bring developmental works for Garo Hills. She has proved herself to be incapable of holding this post of MP. While Dr.Mukul Sangma has been nationally known as incumbent Chief Minister and the “Do-er” and we need people like him to represent us in the parliament; Beryl said
Others who spoke in the meeting included Congress officials from Jharkand, Former North Tura MLA Noverfield Marak, Edmund K.Sangma, former MLA; Mukul Das, Former MLA.
