HYC warns ABVP, WOSY for using NEHU to advance their political agendas
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Tuesday warned ABVP and WOSY of using the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) for advancing its political agendas and to create communal tensions inside the university.
In a statement, HYC education secretary Enlang Sawian said, “(We) warns ABVP and WOSY to tread very carefully and not to use NEHU for advancing their political agendas and to create communal tensions inside the University. We will not allow people or groups with vested interests to spoil the name of NEHU and our State as a whole as NEHU has traditionally not allowed such groups to take part in the Students’ politics till date. And we would like to see that the status quo remains for years to come.”
“We urged upon each and every student of NEHU to be very vigilant and take action necessary to ensure that the University is free from the divisive and petty political agendas of these types of groups or people,” he said.
He said that the HYC-CEC has taken a strong exception to the recent events unfolding in NEHU.
“We are informed that the ABVP, a students’ wing of the BJP is trying its best to infiltrate in the Campus by using its outfit called the World Organisation of Students and Youths (WOSY) as well as holding of program in collaboration with the RSS like the one which was stopped by HYC recently. The so-called celebration of the festival of Holi inside the Campus by WOSY in collaboration with ABVP/RSS members is nothing but an attempt to communalise the festival and also to politicise the same. In all these years, the students and faculty members as well as staffs of NEHU have been holding such festivals in their individual capacity and there was no objection. But celebrating such festival with a motive to communalise and politicise the same cannot be accepted by HYC,” Sawian said.
“We are also informed that no permissions were granted to WOSY for such event and to celebrate the same with people who are not students of the University inside the campus, as such we fully support the stand taken by the Office Bearers of NEHUSU and condemned the action of all those involved in the assaults of the Vice-President of NEHUSU,” he added.
The HYC also urged the Police department to take prompt and necessary action to book the culprits involved in the case of assault as per relevant sections of law and also urged upon the authorities of NEHU to take appropriate action against the Organisers of that particular program.
“Failing which HYC will take its own course of action to ensure that the victim gets justice and to ensure that the University take actions against the organisers,” he warned. “We are also very mindful of the fact that ABVP is trying to make inroads into NEHU Campuses both in Tura and Shillong with an objective of spreading politics of hate and creating communal tensions by using WOSY, as it cannot make inroads by itself, which also consists of Bangladeshi Students like Jurak who as per our information have multiple sexual harassment/assault cases pending against him. ABVP is trying to empower these types of objectionable people to penetrate
