HYC exposes Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project’s road quality failings
The leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Diengiei Circle and the HYC Krang Unit found that the 40 km road along the Diengiei area, East Khasi Hills was shoddily constructed.
A viral video of a man seen ripping apart sections of the black-topped road with his bare hands at the same time complaining at the road condition.
The members of the two units conducted the joint inspection on October 2 of the stretch of road starting from Mawmaram, Nongthliew, Mawmih, Diengiei, Mawlyndep till Umsaw which is a 40 km road.
This road project was supervised by the M/S Tanor Engineering Sunshine Sawkmie (JV) and the amount sanctioned is Rs 64 crores.
In a joint statement issued here, the HYC leaders stated that the bad road conditions pose a danger to the residents of Diengiei village as well as the vehicles plying along the road.
The HYC has expressed concern on the road condition knowing well that the road project was through a scheme known as the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project sanctioned by the World Bank.
The HYC stated that the bad road construction hampers the health of the people considering the pollution arising out of the construction activities.
The HYC claimed that the company did not follow the guidelines and in this connection has urged the MLA of Sohiong constituency Synshar Thabah to intervene into the matter.
