  • Housing enquiry team to verify quality of roofing sheets in Khasi Jaintia region from July 2

    The enquiry team constituted by the Housing department will start conducting spot inspection for verifying the quality of the roofing sheets in 7 districts of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region from July 2.

    This came following a complaint lodged by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) against the alleged supply of substandard and low quality corrugated aluminium roofing sheets under the Chief Minister Housing Assistance Program (CMHAP).

    The enquiry team headed by the Joint Secretary incharge Housing department LC Marak will visit the godowns of the different community and rural development (C&RD) blocks in East Khasi Hills on July 2 to 9, West Jaintia Hills on July 12, Ri Bhoi on July 13, Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills on July 16, East Jaintia Hills on July 19 and South West Khasi Hills on July 20.

    Marak in his letter on June 28 had directed all district housing officers (DHOs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to be present in their respective offices during the visit by the enquiry team for spot inspection/verification regarding the suplly of substandard and low quality corrugated roofing sheets as alleged by the NGO.

    “Whereas by order dated June 21, the enquiry team has been constituted to ascertain the facts into the allegations raised by certain NGO into the supply of substandard and low quality corrugated aluminium roofing sheet under Chief Minister Housing Assistance Program (CMHAP) which were not as specifications, approved by Departmental Tender Committee based on the NIQ invited/floated in 2022 for which indent order were placed by the Office of the Directorate of Housing for the year 2022-23 and 2023-24 from the approved supplier known as Hariana Iron Works Pvt Ltd Kolkata, West Bengal and delivered to the different districts and block headquarters,” he stated in the letter.
