The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has accused the government of attempting to sabotage the peace talks.

In a statement issued on Sunday, HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “The HNLC wants to find a solution to the 77-year problem, but the government is attempting to sabotage the peace talks.”

“It is true that we initially argued to have discussions within the framework of the Indian constitution, but after we became flexible, the government was not. Oh India, you are blinded by your religious supremacy and military power. However, we, the oppressed Hynniewtrep, will rise up against your colonialist imperialist power. You will witness that we are no longer mentally dead; our people will resurrect to decolonize and revolt against your powerful government. Wickliffe, Tirot Singh, Kiang Nangbah and Bah Cherish may be dead and gone, but their ideas live on,” Nongtraw said while adding “The HNLC will die when their political ideas die. You have not yet managed to kill the idea of separatism from them or from us. Politically and economically, we are like a spider. No matter how many years it takes, the HNLC will spin the web alone.”

Nongtraw said that the term ‘ieid Jaidbynriew’ has been misused as much as the misused of law by these corrupt politicians. “Our Jaidbynriew have suffered injustices at the hands of the state and central government. Therefore, the HNLC urges the Hynniewtrep leadership, Hynniewtrep educators, Hynniewtrep scholars, and writers to stand on the side of truth and justice,” he said.

“I’m wondering why people who voted for their politicians to represent them in the secretariat and assembly are so scared of them. The government and the institution have failed you. If the politicians whom you voted into office fail you, you must tie their hands and feet like filthy pigs, roll them in the street, or hang them from a tree like beasts. You must stop being pawns, stop being flunkeys, filthy donkeys, low-down people. You must not sleep on your own rights. These politicians whom you voted for are the termites, the bloodsuckers, the johnny-come-latelies who scam and defraud in their own community. They are the ones who are anti-national, anti-people, and anti-poor; they are the ones who betray the flag and the constitution.  When the leader sells out the people, he should pay the price for it. We should set an example so that the next leader to come will respect the people and do what pleases the masses,” he stated.

Further, Nongtraw said that tt is a historical fact that once oppressed peoples resist their oppression, the pursuit of full freedom becomes unstoppable. History demonstrates that oppressed peoples often achieve justice through acts of violence, as evidenced in revolutions like the French, American, Cuban, and Chinese revolutions.

“We have the birthright to revolt; do not think that the fish is afraid of the ocean. We must defend and protect our God-given rights, our natural rights to land and nation. We are not sheep to offer our lives easily. If you are not prepared to act against your oppressor, you may be resigned to servitude. However, should you rise and defend the birthright granted by God, while some may fall, others will secure their freedom and savor life and liberty. In death, let me find solace within the embrace of those who defied tyranny, who fell to government bullets and the hanging rope, knowing eternal freedom is sweeter than a life in chains,”he concluded.
