Health Camp conducted at Umtong Village
JOWAI: The Department of Allied Health Sciences of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) conducted a Health Camp at Umtong village, Mawkynrew Block, East Khasi Hills District.
About 100 locals, including infants, turned up to the camp to have their anthropometric measurements taken and vital signs evaluated.
Volunteers from Bansara Eye Care also provided a free eye check up to everyone.
Doctors were made available throughout the day for a free consultation and free medicines were given to the ones who needed them.
The villagers were greatly appreciative of the efforts of MLCU in organising such a camp.
Speaking to this correspondent, one of the villagers said, “The only access to healthcare that we have is a PHC that is situated at a considerable distance from the village. We get to go there if we have transportation, if not; we have to forego our checkup. The service provided there is also not very regular. Hence, this camp is really a boon for us as we’re getting such a benefit after a very long time.”
