HANM closed down mall’s restroom for excessive fee
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Friday closed down a restroom at Marba Hub shopping mall in Khyndailad for charging exorbitant fee on the pretext of “security reasons”.
This was after complaints received from the public that the mall was charging Rs 30 for using the restroom.
The HANM anti-influx operation cell visited the mall and found that public were asked to pay first Rs 30 before using the restroom.
Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the checking, secretary of the anti-influx operation cell Nelson Kharbani said that they have decided to close down the restroom since the decision on this excessive fee is not acceptable at all to the public visiting the mall.
“This is the first time that we have come across public having to pay such a huge amount for using restroom,” he said while adding that the restroom in the mall is no different compared to the other public toilets like the one at the MUDA complex, which is charging at Rs 5.
Kharbani said, “On seeking clarification, the general manager of the mall informed that it was for security reasons, which it is not up to our understanding.”
Asked, the secretary said that the HANM would immediately lodge a complaint with the deputy commissioner for necessary action on the matter.
