GSMC condemns Marak’s statement on ILP
SHILLONG: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has strongly condemned the former ANVC. B leader Bernard N Marak for his alleged misinterpretation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
“He (Bernard) has commented that ILP is not for tribal people but Sixth Schedule is more important than ILP. Such irresponsible comments should not be made without proper knowledge of various provisions of the ILP,” GSMC assistant organizing secretary Jason Tekrang M. Sangma said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
Sangma’s said tribal people both plain and hills are unanimously demanding the introduction of ILP in the entire North Eastern States including Assam.
Having fully realized the important of ILP the people of Manipur had relentlessly pressed the centre government and ultimately achieve their ultimate goal as the BJP centre government has agreed to bring the state of Manipur within the purview of ILP.
In line with that, he said the tribal people of Meghalaya are also been demanding implementation of ILP in the state of Meghalaya.
“Under such circumstances, if only one person who claims himself to be a tribal denies the importance of ILP such reckless comment is strongly condemnable by one and all. He should know that the provision of Sixth Schedule do not include the entry and exit points in the tribal areas for the non-indigenous coming from other states unlike the provision of ILP,” Sangma’s said.
“Therefore, even under the Sixth Schedule areas the implementation of ILP is necessary to check the illegal migrants in the entry and exit points and it is empower even to detect the illegal immigrants in grassroots level and to limit their period of stay in the tribal areas as and when they are required for particular job or service by the employer of entrepreneur,” he added.
