The state government has warned to take stern action against hospitals for denying treatment to patients requiring immediate medical attention.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Thursday that he is aware of such incidents where some hospitals are denying treatment to patients but no official complaint has been received so far by the government.

“However, I am warning all hospitals that strict action will be taken against them if they are found to deny admission to patients who require medical treatment,” Tynsong said while urging the dorbar shnong to officially inform the government on such cases.

The deputy chief minister also reminded that a meeting was already convened by the health department with all the hospitals requesting them to admit patients as per the prescribed norms issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

“They (hospitals) should screen patients (for COVID-19) but they cannot just throw them out or sent them back home without any valid reasons as that would be considered as illegal,” he said adding “All hospitals are therefore asked not to stigmatise or neglect patients as when they come, it is your duty to admit them.”
