Govt to pursue pending issues including ILP with Centre: Tynsong

The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has adopted a string of New Year resolutions for 2021, which one of them is to urge the Centre to consider the resolutions related to the inner line permit and Khasi & Garo languages passed by the state Assembly.

“We are committed to pursue all the pending issues which include resolutions adopted in the state Assembly relating to ILP, Khasi and Garo languages, with the central government,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Monday.   

He said the state government wanted to meet the aspiration of the people of Meghalaya.

Asked, Tynsong said the MDA would soon visit Delhi. “Let the chief minister join back to his normal duty and once he comes back, we will sit down, we will work it out and then ultimately we will again rush to Delhi to pursue the pending issues with the central government,” he said.

“We will again go to Delhi and we will request the government of India to consider all those resolutions passed by the Assembly unanimously,” he added.

On the long pending boundary dispute with Assam, the deputy chief minister however said unfortunately, the state government will not be able to do anything for now due to the upcoming Assam general elections to be held this year.

“Assam is going to have its general election this year, so I don’t think we will be able to do anything, so hopefully when the general election of Assam is over, again this pending issue will be taken up by the MDA government under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma,” he assured.

Regarding the delay to resolve the Sweeper’s colony issue, Tynsong however said, “You need to understand that these issue were there for not less than four-five decades and I think people need to understand that we need a permanent solution to this not a temporary solution, that is why the government in 2018 has constituted the high level committee under my chairmanship.”

“See this issue is very much alive, we are working out, we don’t sleep and we are not idle at all because as I said to you there are so many issues where we need to sort it out and resolve the issues and one of the issues is the ownership of that plot. Therefore, I would urge all the citizens of the state be it NGOs, be it Synjuk ki  Rangbah Shnong or be it the permanent residents of Meghalaya, bear with us because now we are working it out and I am very sure we will be able to submit the report as mandated by the notification issued related to the HLC,” he stated.

To a question, the deputy chief minister informed that the HLC would soon meet to submit its final report to the state government once the signing of the agreement between the three parties – Hima Mylliem, KHADC and state government – is completed.
