Govt to deal firmly against attempt to vitiate peaceful environment: James Sangma
SHILLONG: Home Minister James K Sangma on Thursday said the government will deal firmly against any attempt to vitiate the peaceful environment in the state.
“I would also like to state that we in the home (police) department are seized of the matter and is putting every means possible to protect each and every citizens regardless the community they belong to,” Sangma told reporters here.
The home minister was reacting to the recent threats issued by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to shoot non-tribals in the state.
The HNLC has also threatened to attack the Harijan colony if they continue to challenge the state government on the move to relocate them from Them Iew Mawlong.
Asked, Sangma said, “Their protection is of paramount important to us. Any attempt to vitiate the peaceful environment we are having in Meghalaya we will deal with that firmly…”
Meanwhile, the home minister has also warned action against attempt to communalize the issue related to the Harijan colony.
“As a government we will not tolerate any kind of attempt to communalize or to vitiate the environment in any way. We will take action against such kind of attempts let me be very clear and firm on that,” he added.
