Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said the state government will continue to pursue the Centre for immediate implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said that the state government is not satisfied with the response of the Centre on the issue.

The ILP resolution unanimously passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2019 is still pending for the approval of the centre.

“We are not satisfied and that is why we keep on pursuing this issue. We are still pursuing and we are still going to do that till we get a very clear signal ‘yes’ or ‘no’ (from the centre),” Tynsong assured.

He also informed that the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has been meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah whenever he goes to Delhi.

“This itself you can understand the spirit from the government side that we don’t just leave aside the issue but we are still pursuing it with the Government of India actively,” he added.

The deputy chief minister also said that both the NPP Members of Parliament – Agatha Sangma (Lok Sabha) and WR Kharlukhi (Rajya Sabha) – are trying their best to take up this issue in any platform not necessarily only in Parliament. They are also meeting the ministers of the government of India on this issue, he said.
