Govt submits memo to PSC on 6th Schedule
SHILLONG: The state government on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Rajya Sabha on the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
The delegation of the state government was led by District Council Affairs Minister James K Sangma. He was accompanied by opposition Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, KHADC CEM Teinwell Dkhar, JHADC CEM Thombor Shiwot, GHADC CEM Dipul R Marak and others.
KHADC chief Teinwell Dkhar informed that the memorandum consist of the recommendations of the committee constituted by the state government.
“We have requested the standing committee to delete the word unrepresented tribes from the proposed amendment,” he said.
He said that the delegation has also urged the standing committee to consider nominating of only two members each to the KHADC and JHADC.
“We also urge that the number of seats in the KHADC and JHADC should remain the same except for GHADC,” Dkhar said.
