Govt incurs Rs 2.13 Cr expenditure for hosting 23 programme in two 5 star hotels

An expenditure of Rs 2.13 crore has been incurred by the government for conducting 23 programmes at Taj Vivanta and JW Courtyard, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Assembly on Thursday.
Of this, Rs 62.47 lakh was spent for the G-20 summit, Sangma said while replying to a question raised by Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh.
When asked on the need of holding government programmes in such luxurious hotels, the CM said, “Governemnt has to host programmes, it is a normal process. It is a matter of pride that we could host the G-20 summit, it is nothing out of the ordinary as we can showcase and provide proper service to delegates so that they go back with good memories.”
He however said depending on the programme, the government chooses a location.
According to him, almost 80-85% of the staff in the two hotels are local people.
On Congress MLA from Gambegre Saleng A Sangma’s suggestion for promoting local entrepreneurs from the state, the CM said the CM Elevate programme is meant for local entrepreneurs since the government is going for large scale home stays and villas.
