Minister in-charge Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Abu Taher Mondal on Tuesday said there has been an improvement in the linking of the job card with Aadhaar for the smooth implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the state.

“We have improved compared to what was there last year. However, we are yet to achieve a hundred percent linkage of job cards with Aadhaar card,” Mondal told reporters.

“Accordingly, we have instructed the block development officers (BDOs) to see that the beneficiaries should enrol for Aadhaar and Aadhaar card and job card should be seeded,” he added.

The minister also informed that earlier funds were not released due to failure to link the job cards with Aadhaar.

“We faced a lot of problems. So, we took it up with the chief minister, who wrote to the government of India to exempt us. We got an exemption for two years with an ultimatum that henceforth there will be no more exemption.”

He also stated that some bills cannot be generated because there were names of people whose Aadhaar were not seeded.

“Those (bills) were held back. After our continuous insistence with the government of India, they now agreed to release those bills where some Aadhaar cards were not seeded but after that or henceforth they will not release any bills where one person is not having an Aadhaar card. Accordingly, we had instructed the concerned officers to look into it that whichever bills are generated they should not have anybody who is not having Aadhaar linkage,” Mondal stated.
