The state Cabinet has approved the appointment of PSR Kharkongor, a retired engineer as the new chief technical adviser (CTA) of the state power department.

After the meeting held on Monday, Power Minister, James K Sangma said that Kharkongor’s appointment will be for a period of one year.

This came after M Bora’s tenure as CTA expired on July 20, this year.

Sangma, also the government spokesperson informed that the cabinet has also approved the draft Meghalaya Taxation Service Rules, 2020.

He said that the taxation department till date does not have its own service rules and in absence, the condition of the employees has been governed on an adhoc basis by an office memo issued from time to time.

He said that the decision was also inline with the recommendation of the fifth pay commission that all departments who are yet to notify their respective services rules shall do so within one year.

Meanwhile, the cabinet has also approved the appointment of over 18 engineers under 3F in the Water Resources department, which at present is facing acute shortage of manpower.
