The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) declared the HSSLC 2025 results on Monday, marking a special moment for Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Jowai. As the school celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it also marked a historic academic milestone—Sophia Niang, a student from its first-ever Commerce batch, secured the 6th position in the state with 461 marks.

However, the achievement was slightly marred by a technical omission—Sophia was listed as a “Regular-II Candidate” in the merit list, and not under her school’s name. The reason? The school is yet to receive formal affiliation for the Commerce stream, which it introduced in 2023.

Dr. Waisa Sumer, in-charge principal, called the moment “bittersweet.” “We’re proud of Sophia’s success, especially in our Jubilee year. But not seeing our school’s name in the official merit list was disappointing. We’ve been informed by MBOSE that due to the pending affiliation, the student could not be listed under the school.”

Still, the academic milestone is cause for celebration. “I’m thankful to my teachers,” said Sophia, beaming with pride. “To really succeed, you need to understand the concept. That’s what helped me.”

Despite the official oversight, the result speaks volumes: Govt Girls HSS Jowai has arrived on Meghalaya’s Commerce education map—with a golden result in a golden year.
