A potential gas leak incident at a shut-in well in the Lankasi-Kothalguri area of Assam’s Dibrugarh district was swiftly brought under control by Oil India Limited (OIL) late Thursday night, officials confirmed.

According to a senior OIL official, the leakage was first detected around 4:30 PM on May 1. Preliminary investigations pointed to a mechanical failure in the casing valve as the cause of the leak.

In response, OIL’s internal well services team, supported by security personnel, was immediately deployed to the site. The team managed to subdue the well and successfully replaced the faulty casing valve by 1 am on May 2.

“There was no damage to life or property, and the situation was handled with all necessary precautions,” the official added.
