Futsal playground inaugurated at Sohkymphor village

A new Futsal Playground funded under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Fund was inaugurated today at Sohkymphor Village under Wapung C&RD Block by Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla.

Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, Shivansh Awasthi, along with Deputy CEM of JHADC Lasky Rymbai and Deputy Chairman of JHADC Wailadameshwa Siangshai, also attended the event alongside traditional heads, teachers, students, and local residents.

In his address, Shylla highlighted the role of sports in channeling youth energy positively and announced plans to construct more futsal playgrounds across the district. He expressed hope that the new facility will nurture emerging talents, much like the Artificial Turf Ground at Deinshynrum.

Deputy Commissioner Awasthi emphasized the importance of maintaining the ground and encouraged the village committee to utilize part of the revenue for its upkeep.

The programme also featured cultural performances by students and SHG members.
