    SHILLONG: The state government is all set to implement the Free Drug Policy to ensure every citizen are entitled to free medicines in all public health centres spread across the state.

     

    Announcing this here on Thursday, Health Minister AL Hek told reporters that the free drug policy will be implemented from the next financial year.  

     

    Hek informed a total of 72 essential medicines will be made free of cost to the people of the state. “The government will spend Rs 100 crores for this purpose to ensure these medicines are made available in all the district hospitals, CHCs, PHCs etc 24X7,” he said.

     

    Asked, the minister also assured that the policy will also address the problem of shortage of medicines in government health centres where patients are often asked to buy medicines from private pharmacies.
