FKJGP demands arrest of 3 non-tribals for spreading communal hatred over Ichamati issue
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Monday demanded the state government to take legal action against the three non-tribals, who petitioned to the Governor, for spreading communal hatred on religious lines in the state.
“We demand the immediate arrest of these three persons for attempting to disrupt peace by trying to mislead against the indigenous community,” FKJGP president Wellbirth Rani said in a statement here.
On October 15, the petitioners – Prantush Sarkar, Mridul Das and Binayak Roy had submitted a representation to the Governor, Satya Pal Malik alleging atrocities by the NGOs, state machinery and the district council against non-tribal residing in Ichamati and Bholaganj areas in East Khasi Hills District.
They alleged that there have been tremendous efforts made by the state machinery to stop the Hindu population from earning their livelihood so that they become bound to leave the state.
Rani said since the hills state movement in the state till today, there has been no discrimination against any religious organization.
“The protests are confined to the demand to protect tribal rights, which no power can stop us from doing so,” he added.
The FKJGP president also said if the state government can immediately take action against members of the different NGOs, it should also dare to act against these hatemongers without any delay.
“Also if the Nagaland government can take action against those who speak against the Naga community, then it should not be difficult for the Meghalaya government to arrest these people so that it will be a strong deterrent to others in the future,” he said.
Rani further stated that the state government should also ask the BJP leaders in Delhi to stop making irresponsible and baseless statements without knowing the ground reality.
As per the inquiry report into the Ichamati incident by the Syiem of Hima Sohra, there has been no such atrocities against Hindu population and other non-tribals residing in the area.
