An extensive survey on Khasi-Pnar villages under Block-I along the inter-state border in West Jaintia Hills will take another two weeks to complete.

“The objective of the extensive survey is to collect the names of Khasi-Pnar villages all along the inter-state border,” said Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar, who is heading the regional committee for West Jaintia Hills District.

The survey is being carried out for the past two months.

“Another two weeks’ time is required to complete the survey,” he said.

According to him, the regional committees of Meghalaya and Assam are likely to meet again in January, next year.

Traditional heads and NGOs have been demanding the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance – 2 government to ensure all 36 villages under Block-I are transferred back to Meghalaya.

Block I is among the six remaining areas of difference to be resolved by the two States during the ongoing second phase of border talks.
