The district administration of East Khasi Hills has decided to file an additional first information report (FIR) against four more persons, who had attended the wedding party at Greenwood Resort in Assam, for violating the COVID-19 protocols.

“We are filing the FIR today and this will be the last,” Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Matsiewdor War Nongbri told reporters on Thursday.

She said earlier, FIR has already been filed against 35 persons based on the direction of the state government.

Asked, Nongbri said that the complaint was filed after thorough inquiry was conducted into the incident.

The deputy commissioner however said blaming the district administration for issuing the passes is not right.

“How can this be a failure on the part of district administration when based on their request we have issued passes for only five people and five vehicles,” she said.

Following inquiry into the incident, it was later found out that a total of 47 persons had attended the wedding party at Assam which includes 39 from East Khasi Hills and 8 from Ri Bhoi.

They were found to have violated the COVID-19 protocols by intentionally skipping the coronavirus screening and testing at Byrnihat entry-point in Ri Bhoi District while returning from Assam to Shillong.

It may be mentioned here that as many as 23 persons have contracted the COVID-19 infection from the patients, who had attended the wedding party at Greenwood Resort, Guwahati on June 27 and a reception at Shillong on July 2.
