EJH police seized heroin worth Rs 5 Cr, 1 arrested in Lumshnong

East Jaintia Hills police seized 609 grams of heroin worth Rs 5.5 crore in the market after detaining a drug trafficker at Lumshnong on Tuesday morning.

This was the first major drug bust a day after new Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang took charge of office.

Acting on tip off, ANTF team headed by Additional SP along with  officers and personnel of Lumshnong PS detained a Tata Sumo proceeding from Silchar Assam and detained one person, who was identified as Lalabiakdik Vaiphei (39) of Madanrting, Shillong, district SP Giri Prasad said.

During checking 58 Soap boxes of heroin weighing around 609 gms were recovered. The market value of the seized heroin is Rs 5.5 Crores, he said.
