EC announces repoll in Selsella
SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India today announced its decision to hold repoll in the Konarchar polling station at Selsella segment of Tura parliamentary constituency on Monday.
On the recommendation of the Returning Officers, EC has decided to hold repoll in the polling booth, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said on Saturday.
The EC in its order stated, “…the poll taken on April 11 at polling station No 35-Konarchar LP School of 48-Selsella assembly segment of 2-Tura parliamentary constituency to be void and appoints April 15 as the date and fixes the hours from 7am to 4pm for taking fresh poll at the said polling station…”
Earlier, the CEO informed that the sector officer had detected mismatch in the control units of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) for Assembly and MP elections due to human error that led to criss-crossing of the machines.
The Konarchar polling station has a total number of 712 voters. Of this, 670 voters had casted their votes for the Selsella by poll while 668 for the Lok Sabha election during the polling that was held on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the CEO had informed that it was also recommended to the Election Commission for counting of voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips in six polling stations due to failures of the presiding officers to clear the mock poll data from the EVMs.
Of these, two polling stations are under the Shillong parliamentary constituency while three under the Tura parliamentary constituency.
These include Khliehrangnah in Raliang Assembly constituency and Nongpyndeng – Nongstoin Assembly constituency, Pssengagre and Tochapara in Gambegre constituency and Dawakilingre in Williamnagar constituency, he said.
