The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 163 BNSS, prohibiting the illegal killing of fishes and environmental degradation in the Rynsha and Lawmei Rivers within Lawmei village.

The order restricts the use of poisonous chemicals and explosive substances, including bleaching powder, ammonium sulfate, pesticides, dynamite, and fishing nets, to prevent irreversible damage to the rivers and safeguard aquatic life.

The directive was issued following reports of rampant fish killings by miscreants in Wah Rynsha, Lawmei River, and the adjoining areas, where hazardous substances have been used indiscriminately, endangering the local ecosystem. Authorities stress the urgent need to curb these destructive practices.

Violators will face prosecution under Section 223 of the BNS. The order came to force with immediate effect until further orders
