East Jaintia Hills celebrates National Voters Day
The 14th National Voters Day, with the theme “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure,” was celebrated in East Jaintia Hills District on Thursday. The event was held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, organized by the Office of the District Election Officer.
The celebration saw the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, Additional Deputy Commissioners G Warjri and JU Kharpuri, Assistant Commissioner F Wann, along with other government officials, traditional leaders, political party representatives, and students.
During his speech, Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal emphasized the significance of the democratic election process, stressing that it provides equal opportunities to everyone regardless of religion, caste, or designation. He encouraged young voters to actively participate in the electoral process, underscoring the role each individual plays in shaping the country through voting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner G Warjri spoke about the purpose of celebrating National Voters Day, aiming to involve young voters in the electoral process, make them aware of their rights, and emphasize the importance of their votes.
As part of the occasion, all dignitaries, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner JU Kharpuri, took a pledge to uphold democratic traditions, ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections. The event also recognized the Best Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from 5-Sutnga-Saipung and 6-Khliehriat constituencies, and First Time Voters were presented with EPICs.
Earlier in the day, an 11 Km Open Marathon competition, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the District Sports Officer, was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner G Warjri. The marathon, starting from the New Deputy Commissioner’s Office and concluding at the Old Deputy Commissioner’s Office, featured enthusiastic participation. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners in both Male and Female categories, with Knerlang Phawa, Rishanmehi Ryngkhlem, and Sting Phawa securing the top three spots in the Male category, and Rosy Sana, Wasaki Phawa, and Rikynti Sana emerging as the winners in the Female category.
