Dr. Khonglah donated land for the construction of Hydromet station in West Jaintia Hills District
The Water Resources Department, West Jaintia Hills Division along with the representatives from different localities of Jowai town and Members from the Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai and President Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu on Tuesday inspected the National Hydrology Project for Hydromet Station at Treiongriang, Myntdu river.
Meanwhile, an awareness programme on ‘Benefits of RTDAS (Real Time Data Acquisition System)’ was organised by the Water Resource Department, Jowai at Khimusniang Pohskseh Community Hall.
Superintending Engineer (HPD), Junecy Lyngdoh informed that the objective of this awareness is to sensitize the people residing in the River Basin on the importance of data acquisition for future planning, development & management of water resources in the basin.
She also said that this awareness will instill a sense of responsibility so that the public will not damage or steal the equipment installed in the Station.
Executive Engineer (WR), P Kurbah, expressed his sincere appreciation towards Dr. Hermon Khonglah for his generosity in donating his land at Treiongriang for the construction of the Hydromet station.
He briefed on the main activities taken under the National Hydrological Project highlighting about the National Hydrological project (NHP) being implemented in every state of India and Meghalaya also is on the way to implement the same.
He mentioned that one of the programme under the NHP is to build the Hydromet stations in every river of the state, 25 Hydromet stations have already been constructed in Meghalaya.
In West Jaintia Hills 3 Hydromet stations have been constructed at the river basin of Myntdu river, Wahiurem river and Myntang river respectively.
He also mentioned that there are several other programmes under the NHP, one such programme is to install the technical instrument like automatic Rain-gauge in every stations of state for measuring Rainfall, in West Jaintia hills all the 3 stations has the automatic rain-gauge.
Another programme under the NHP is to install the Piezometer for measuring the availability of the underground water, 2 locations one at the office of Sub-Divisional Agricultural officer, Amlarem and another at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mynthong have been installed in the District.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, DD Syngai, MCS, President Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong, Jowai, A. Niangti, President, Khooid Ia Wah Myntdu, Shri. K.L. Pariat, were the other speakers of the Programme.
