Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar graces MBOSE’s 50th Jubilee
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar graced the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) as the Chief Guest. The event took place at Green Haven, New Tura on October 18 and marked a historic milestone in MBOSE’s journey spanning five decades. The theme for the Golden Jubilee celebrations was “Celebrate the Past, embrace the present and rise to the future.”
Addressing a large gathering of distinguished dignitaries and academicians, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the incredible achievements of MBOSE over the past 50 years. He emphasized that MBOSE is among the nation’s top educational boards and acknowledged the significant progress and development in the region’s education sector, despite various challenges. He expressed hope for even more achievements in the future and commended the remarkable performances of students from various schools. Dhar also expressed gratitude to all officers and staff for their dedicated service to the region’s welfare.
Meghalaya’s Education Minister, Rakkam A Sangma, graced the event as the Guest of Honour and extended warm congratulations to the entire MBOSE family. He expressed deep appreciation for individuals who dedicated their service to the board over the past five decades. Sangma reminisced about the board’s inception in Tura, Garo Hills, following Meghalaya’s attainment of statehood, considering it a blessing for the region’s people.
During a PowerPoint presentation, Controller of Examinations, MBOSE, Tura, TR Laloo, outlined the milestones of MBOSE’s journey since its establishment. He highlighted the pivotal role of the Meghalaya Board of School Education Act enacted in 1973, which played a crucial role in regulating and supervising school education in the state. Laloo noted the significant improvement in the pass percentage, with 78% in 2023 compared to 38.3% in 1973. He also explained the roles and functions of the board, including numerous infrastructural upgrades.
The event included the honour of hoisting and unfurling the MBOSE flag, a symbol of the board’s enduring legacy. Distinguished dignitaries attended the ceremony, and the release of a souvenir and colorful cultural performances by various schools of Garo Hills added to the festivities. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries also participated in cutting the Jubilee Cake.
Several key figures, including Executive Chairman MBOSE, C P Marak, and Secretary to the Education Department, Ambrose Ch Marak, spoke during the function. The program was attended by MLA, Rangsakona Constituency, and Chairman, Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries, Subir Marak, along with other prominent dignitaries, heads of institutions, teachers, and students.
In the later part of the program, academic discourse featured prominent speakers delving into the historical roles of various missionary groups in the spread of education in Meghalaya. Topics included the Role of Baptist Missionaries, Presbyterian Missionaries, Roman Catholics, and Rama Krishna Missionaries.
Further, the event organized Spelling BEE, Quiz, and Music displays for the students and the audience.
